Where do you take your stroke from if your ball has come to rest on the putting green but then moves due to natural forces such as wind?

The answer is...the new location of the ball!  It must be played from the new position if it has not been lifted or replaced before it moved.

Rule 13.1 (d)

You mistakenly hit the wrong ball in a match.  You realize it before taking the next shot, and the hole has not been completed yet.  Do you lose the hole or can you correct the error, take a penalty, and be on your way to finishing?

The answer is...in match play, you lose the hole!  In stroke play, it's a 2 shot penalty and you must correct the mistake by going back and playing your ball to finish the hole.

Rule 6.3 (c)

As you address the ball on the tee, you accidentally bump it and it falls off the tee.  Can you re-tee without a penalty or did that just cost you a stroke?

The answer is...there is no penalty!  You can re-tee as long as you were not making a stroke.  You can also replace the ball itself (if you are superstitious)

Rule 6.2 (5)

There is a sprinkler head between your ball and the green, about five yards away on your line of play, and you wanted to put.  Can you take free relief since you are dealing with an immovable obstruction?

The answer is...you cannot take relief from a moveable object, boundary object or integral object without a penalty!

True or False - You can remove a stone behind your ball in a bunker before hitting your shot without a penalty.

The answer is...true!  The player is allowed to move loose impediments in a bunker with a hand or club but limited prohibition continues.

Course Question

Yes, many golf courses have dress codes to maintain tradition.  The rules may vary by course so it is always recommended to call the course before showing up for play!

There are regulations in place to make sure that golf courses meet specific requirements and standards.  There should be alternative golf cart paths, accessible routes, practice facilities, weather shelters and more.

Check back for a future article on this topic!

The average length is about 6500 yards for a standard course.  The average for a PGA Tour course is 7200 yards.

The average play time for 18 holes, with a cart, is 3.5 hours.  This is based on 4 experienced players that do not need extra time for ball searching.

The "pace of play" refers to the speed of the game and how quickly players move without delay.  The rules state that players should take no more than 40 seconds to play a stroke.  Many courses will have a Marshall monitor with a clock, especially on weekends.
